“We knew that there had to be a better way and that what we were searching for wasn’t a motorized gadget or petroleum-based memory foam.”  Mark Quinn, CEO

Dear friend,

In late 2012, I had just finished delivering a keynote speech at the National Bedding Federation’s gala awards dinner in England when I was approached by one of the most articulate and sincere men I have ever had the privilege to meet. Although he’s the last person who would ever admit it, those of us who live and breathe mattress industry lore know that Simon Spinks is a cult icon if there ever was one. He is the sixth generation heart and soul behind Spink & Edgar, and today I am honored to say he has become a dear friend.

Until recently, my brother (Jeff) and I had dedicated nearly our entire adult lives working for many of the top brands in the mattress business. I’ve been on the manufacturing and supply side for the past 25 years, and my brother has over a decade on the retail side. But the truth was that all the experience we had gained had ultimately led us to two painful conclusions about our industry: First, that almost every bed sold in America varied little from the next in terms of quality. Even worse, that consumers had virtually zero knowledge of the potentially harmful materials being used to mass-produce their mattresses.

We knew that there had to be a better way and that what we were searching for wasn’t a motorized gadget or petroleum-based memory foam.

What we were looking for was a commitment to all-natural, chemical free design principles, research-based innovation and quality standards that had withstood the test of time. Once it became obvious that no one fit that description better than Spink & Edgar, the greatest challenge became finding a way to faithfully recreate their handcrafted construction techniques right here on American soil.

Fully aware of the near-puritanical manufacturing standards demanded by Simon’s family, I knew of no better response than to reach out to friends Neil and Lance Ellman. Like myself and Jeff, Neil and Lance are two brothers who live and breathe this industry. But unlike my and Jeff’s combined 35 years in the business, Neil and Lance’s expertise goes back three whole generations. Their father (Leon) was literally a pioneer who helped build one of the top mattress manufacturing operations in the world.

With the added confidence of Neil and Lance’s manufacturing pedigree, combined with my and Jeff’s knowledge of marketing and retail channels, it was clear that all the right pieces were in place to begin an extraordinary partnership.

Today, having earned Simon’s wholehearted blessing after nearly three years of meticulous collaboration, we are tremendously proud to be introducing Spink & Edgar’s uncompromised 130-year tradition of excellence, right here in America.

From our families to yours,
